France's annual inflation stands at 1.3% in December

ISTANBUL

France's annual inflation rate stood at 1.3% in December 2024, unchanged from a month ago, according to preliminary data released on Tuesday.

The figure came below the market expectation of 1.5%, data from statistical office Insee showed.

Energy prices rose 1.2% year-on-year in December, reversing November's 0.7% decline

The largest annual rise was seen in tobacco prices with 8.7% while food prices in December posted no change.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 0.2% in December, shifting from a 0.1% decline the previous month, mainly due to higher service prices, particularly in transportation.

Year on year, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices rose 1.8%, below the market forecast of 2%.
