The New York Stock Exchange ended the week with mixed results as the drop in oil prices helped ease inflation concerns, and rising bond yields dampened risk appetite.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 95.4 points, or 0.18%, to 51,682.64.
The S&P 500 increased by 0.17% or 12.74 points to 7,650.50, while the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.39% or 104.25 to close at 26,522.55.
The Volatility Index (VIX), often referred to as the market's "fear index," fell 4.01% to 14.81.
Brent futures' price 1.6% to $103.11 per barrel as of 2010GMT and the yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury note also rose by 5 basis points, climbing back above 5%.
On the macroeconomic data front, US industrial production remained unchanged on a monthly basis in August.

European stock markets ended the week with declines as the pan-European Stoxx Europe 600 index was down by 1.11% to 635.45 points.
Britain’s FTSE 100 fell 1.45% to 10,659.13, Germany’s DAX 40 decreased 1.6% to 25,304.06 and France’s CAC 40 dropped 1.49% to 8,065.02.
Italy’s FTSE MIB 30 index went down by 1.6% to close at 51,545.25, and Spain's IBEX 35 declined 1.6% to close at 19,513.80.
