Wholesale prices in Germany increased by 6.8% in August on a yearly basis, largely driven by surging energy and raw material costs stemming from the conflict in the Middle East.
The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported Tuesday that the annual price growth accelerated from 5.3% in July and 4.9% in June.
The August figure marked the highest price increase since February 2023, when wholesale prices rose by 9.5%.
The statistical authority attributed the sharp overall increase primarily to mineral oil products, which skyrocketed by 36.1% compared to August 2025.
Prices for non-ferrous ores, metals, and semi-finished metal products also experienced significant growth, surging 27.4% year-on-year.
Other notable yearly increases included chemical products at 13.6% and computers and peripheral equipment at 11.1%.
Conversely, wholesale prices for live animals dropped 18.3% during the same period.
Destatis also recorded yearly price declines of 10.3% for milk, dairy products, eggs, and edible fats, as well as 6.7% for meat and meat products.
Month-on-month, German wholesale prices grew by 0.9% in August.
