Russian military helicopter briefly enters Polish airspace

A Russian military Mi-8 helicopter briefly entered Polish airspace from Russia's Kaliningrad exclave on Wednesday, according to Poland's Operational Command of the Armed Forces.

The helicopter remained in Polish airspace for 42 seconds and penetrated up to approximately 300 meters, the command said on US social media platform X.

"Fighter aircraft were scrambled, and ground-based forces and assets remained on standby," it added.

"The nature of the incident indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defense," the command said.

The incident occurred shortly after 11 am local time (0900GMT) near the town of Braniewo in northern Poland, close to the border with Kaliningrad.
