Over 60 people remain missing Thursday after a landslide in China's northwestern Shaanxi province buried housing at a mining company.
State news agency Xinhua reported that the slide happened Wednesday at around 12.30 a.m. (0430GMT), bringing down nearly 1.3 million cubic meters of dirt and wreckage which buried 15 dorms and three houses at the Wuzhou Mining Company in Shanyang County.
More than 700 rescuers - police, firefighters, and paramedics - remain at the scene and local residents have been evacuated.
Xinhua reported Thursday that 10 people had managed to escape as the slide bore down.
One of those who fled was quoted as saying he was woken by people shouting about the danger.
"Those who ran down the mountain were buried by the landslide. Many just had no time, as the landslide buried the area in mere minutes," Zhou Kunlin told Xinhua.
President Xi Jingping has ordered an all-out rescue effort to minimize casualties, while people in the nearby area have been warned to be prepared for a possible second landslide.
