ANKARA
President of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces Ahmad Moaz al-Khatib has said, they would make a move in order to take a representation in all international organizations.
Referring to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, Al-Khatib said, "There is no possibility of opposition using chemical weapons."
Al-Khatib replied the questions of Anadolu Agency (AA) over the recently set up interim government and latest developments in Syria.
After Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces electing Ghassan Hitto as prime minister of the Syrian interim government on Tuesday, al-Khatib said they were not sure where to position the interim government yet and added, the government will have two centres, one in Syria and one abroad.
Al-Khatib touched on the relations between the interim government and the Syrian National Coalition and expressed, "Government is an executive government. Syrian National Coalition will be the political umbrella of it. We have decided on a political council. This council will have a mission to inspect."
President of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, al-Khatib also said, they will ask for a right of representation in all international organizations for the interim government.
Upon reminding him his statement of, "We did not want to get hold of firearms and use them, however the regime has forced us to do so", al-Khatib said, "If there is a way to go without guns then we will lay them down, but if we need to use them, we will continue our way by taking them with us."
-Do not interfere in Syria's war-
Al-Khatib said, "There are people who carry guns in Syria because they just love Syria. There are people in Syria who came over from abroad to study and then ended up feeling Syrian after witnessing the suppression and cruelty in Syria. These people are intimate, warm and people who love Syria. Some sides finance some groups. And we get worried that these people will be influenced under political environments of those groups. Those political sides try to take advantage of these people. What we say is that, these groups are good and intimate, we pay attention to them and we do not discriminate them. We do not want these sides to interfere in Syrian's domestic affairs, Syria's war," over reminding him the opposition definition of Western countries.
-"Hitto may be a mediator for finding solutions to many issues"-
Al-Khatib reminded that Ghassan Hitto who was recently elected prime minister of the Syrian interim government was of Kurdish descent and born in Syrian capital of Damascus. President of Syrian National Coalition al-Khatib underlined, these features of Hitto would help him form good relations with the whole of the Syrian community.
"He is a person who completely looks after his country's benefits and interests. Hitto may be a mediator for finding solutions to many problems. He has a high potential to come together with many groups in the Syria mosaic. This gives him a large elbowroom," stated Al-Khatib.
Upon reminding him the segregation of some countries on Syria crisis, "the good opposition-bad opposition", he replied saying that this was occurring because there were still no complete control achieved in some regions.
He made clear, some groups in some regions that were not taken under control did "banditry" and added, "These groups abuse the rights of people and claim that as if they are related to Free Syrian Army (FSA). These people are not related with the FSA at all. That is why there are problems occurring. None of the revolutionists will do of what they do."
-"Regime is ready to use the chemical weapons"
Al-Khatib said, previously there were news reports about the use of chemical weapons and told AA that a delegation to assess the topic was asked from the UN by France and Britain. He added, the security of the Syrian people was their primary and continued, "Yes, an investigation is a must however more importantly, we have to look at who says right firstly. Is it the regime or the opposition? The opposition does not have fighter jets nor Scud missiles. However, the regime keeps all these in ready to use. There is not a possibility of the regime to use chemical weapons."
-Defense minister will be elected for the interim government-
In the scope of providing services and contributing into economy, the interim government would be taking "important steps" said al-Khatib and noted, Prime Minister Hitto would be presenting his projects in the upcoming general meeting and the delegation would decide on the projects. Al-Khatib underlined, the Syrian National Coalition would be the political umbrella of the interim government and said, none of the members of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces would take part in the government.
He drew attentions to duties of the interim government and said that one of those would be organizing the fighting military units. "As you know, there are many fighting groups. In this government, there will also be a defense minister. The minister's duty will be to convene opposition military forces and to form a national military force."
