JERUSALEM (AA) – Military consultant to Israeli Ministry of Justice, lieutenant Naftali Smulowitz stated during the visit of journalists that there were a total of 4,988 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails and 2,415 of them were lifers.
Journalists were not allowed to take photos at the Ofer prison where 600 Palestinians stay.
Warden of Ofer, Yacoob Shalom informed journalists about the terms and conditions of the prison and noted, non-observant were forfeit with cell confinement and that the cell confinement was depending on the disobedience and indiscipline of the prisoner.
Shalom said there were no prisoners who were on a hunger strike at the prison over a question of a journalist.
Moreover, Smulowitz stated, officials of the prison were letting prisoners to come together with their families once every two weeks for 45 minutes and during the last ten minutes of their meeting, prisoners were let to have a physical contact with their visitors.
It was added, meetings of prisoners with their solicitors were unrestricted.
