ISKENDERUN
Turkish Military Engineering and Construction Troops who were on duty within the scope of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were welcomed with an official ceremony.
TGC Iskenderun ship carrying Turkish Military Engineering and Construction Troops including 229 personnel and 16 civilians arrived at Iskenderun Limak Port in the morning.
The units were welcomed by Deputy District Governor of Iskenderun, District Governor of Belen, Abdulaziz Aydın, Commander of Iskenderun 39th Mechanized Infantry and Headquarter Brigadier Hakan Atinc, Commander of the Iskenderun Naval Base Brigadier Nejat Atilla Demirhan as well as other officials and families.
Commander of Iskenderun 39th Mechanized Infantry and Headquarter Brigadier Hakan Atinc gave flowers to the Commander of Turkish Engineering and Construction Troops Major Halil Serdar Canbas. After the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, a parade was held.
The land unit that took office on October 20, 2006 within the scope of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), composed after resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council following the war between Israel and Hezbollah in the souhtern Lebanon town of Shaitiyeh in 2006, finished its duty according to the government's decision.
It is stated that within the framework of UNIFIL the Turkish naval base will continue to provide services with one frigate.
2.955 personnel have served in the unit so far according to records.
