“We send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” the army spokesman said on a statement posted on his official Facebook page.
A security source had earlier told Anadolu that the vehicle was driving behind army armored vehicle at the time of the attack.
“When the vehicle tried to pass the armored vehicle it received the hit,” added the source.
Eyewitnesses said the attack claimed 20 lives but medical sources confirmed to AA that only two bodies have so far been sent to Arish hospital, the same death toll announced by the army spokesman.
Attacks have ravaged Sinai since elected president Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military on July 3.
At least 12 people, both civilian and army and police personnel, have been killed in 27 militant attacks in Sinai the past week.
