Pakistan has test-fired its own indigenously-made armed drone, officials said Friday.
The Pakistan army's media wing, Inter Services Public Relations, said it tested two laser-guided missiles to be fired from drones.
"I congratulate the nation, scientists, technicians and all others involved in the development of our own drone (missile),” said army chief General Sharif.
He also claimed it will help in the Pakistani army's attempts to eradicate militant groups. The United States often carries out drone strikes against purported militants based in Pakistan.
Nuclear rivals Pakistan and India have been locked in an arms race since the early 1990s.
The two countries have had a hostile relationship since the partition of India after the end of British colonial rule in 1947, fighting three wars in the process.
