Trabzonspor part ways with head coach Fatih Tekke

Trabzonspor have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Fatih Tekke, the Turkish club announced Tuesday.

The club said Vice President Serkan Kilic met with Tekke to assess the team’s current situation and future, after which both sides agreed that a new roadmap should be drawn up in line with Trabzonspor’s interests and long-term goals.

Tekke had submitted his resignation following Trabzonspor’s 4-0 defeat to Ferencvaros in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League playoff round, which eliminated the Turkish side 5-0 on aggregate. His resignation was initially rejected by club President Ertugrul Dogan.

Tekke spent around 18 months in charge, making significant contributions to the development of the squad while also bringing sporting and economic gains to the club, Trabzonspor said.

The club highlighted Tekke’s role in winning the Turkish Cup, saying the achievement had once again written his name into Trabzonspor’s history.

Trabzonspor added that Tekke had made clear he would never want his presence to harm the club in any way and agreed that the club’s interests should take priority.

The club thanked Tekke for his efforts, dedication, achievements and contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future career.

It added that Tekke would be remembered with respect for the positive impact he made and the legacy he left behind.
