Construction of the second container city for Syrian refugees in Turkey's southeastern Kilis province has been completed.
Syrian refugees now have another 420 square-meter shelter in Turkey built by the Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) for 45,461,500 Turkish Liras.
The 21-square-meter containers, made up of two bedrooms, a bathroom and a toilet, were organized to cater for families of six people.
Syrians brought to the camps first await at the lounge. Following having their photos and finger prints taken, each family receives a chip ID card. Then they have health checks and children are vaccinated. Once they are settled in, they are given foodstuffas.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Kilis Governor Suleyman Tapsiz said, "We can call it a small town rather than camp. 20,000 is not a small population. It is equivalent to a medium sized town."
Stating that there were 3,600 containers in the new conainer city, Tapsiz said, "There are 4 prefabricated schools, 4 recreational facilities, 2 mosques, a health center, 7 parks, 2 basketball and 2 volleyball fields, a water tank with 2,000 tonnes of capacity , 2 prefabricated shops, 2 logistic warehouses, 5 public buildings, 8 watch towers and 2 heliports."
Five thousand Syrians have already settled in at the container city completed in 3.5 months.
