BAGHDAD
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi discussed in a phone call Friday evening the strengthening of their bilateral relations and confirmed their respect for each other's countries' sovereignty and interests, according to a statement made by the Iraqi premier's office.
“Both sides agreed that Iraqi oil belongs to all the Iraqi people and that relations between neighbor countries should be established on the basis of respecting sovereignty, unity and the interests of both countries,” according to the statement.
Al-Abadi also confirmed that the enhancement of bilateral relations was in the interests of the two countries’ peoples.
Both sides discussed countering the terrorism challenges which face the region and the importance of standing against planned threats, which target not only Iraq’s security but also the region and the whole world.
Al-Abadi referred in the statement to the Iraqi security forces, including the Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Shiite militia al-Hashid al-Sha’bi, which are countering ISIL and will continue to achieve victories until expelling them from Iraqi land.
The Iraqi government is attempting to free Mosul from ISIL in northern Iraq with the cooperation of the province’s people and stressed the importance of Iraq society’s unity to reach such goal to regain security and stability for Iraq.
