Co-chair of the Turkey-EU joint parliament commission, Afif Demirkiran, has said there were several countries and unions that Turkey could cooperate but Turkey was committed to be an EU member from the very beginning.
Speaking to AA, Demirkiran, a lawmaker from Turkey's southeastern province of Siirt, said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's outburst on Shanghai was an objection to the double standard, hypocritical and inconsiderate attitudes of the EU.
He said Turkey had been making efforts to be a member of the EU for 50 years and despite the resistance of some leaders and double standards of some countries Turkey continue its efforts to overcome those obstacles.
Demirkiran said Turkey was in a much better position economically compared to many EU members and the EU needs Turkey since the EU would need to import man power in the future.
He said Turkey would map out a route for itself if new obstacles would be produced by the EU.
