ANKARA
The pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party held its parliamentary candidates’ publicity meeting on Friday in Ankara with the participation of its nominees.
The party’s election song was introduced at Ankara’s Chamber of Civil Engineers hall with the "We are HDP, we head for the Parliament" tagline.
The party had submitted its final candidate list to Turkey’s Supreme Election Board on April 7.
Speaking at the meeting, HDP co-chairman Selahattin Demirtas said that any other political party in Turkey is not HDP’s enemy.
“Any political party is not our enemy, but all of them are our political opponents. Other parties’ candidates also are not our enemies. We will conduct this election campaign with total human and friendly relations,” he said.
Demirtas reiterated that HDP candidates represent all of Turkey’s different identities.
“We do not have a single identity. We are representatives of all identities in this country. We are not speaking about real justice by denying ourselves and by ignoring opposites,” he said.
HPD is taking part in the general elections for the first time under its own banner, and, in line with other parties in Turkey, needs to win at least 10 percent of votes in order to gain seats in parliament.
Current HDP lawmakers ran as independents in the 2011 general elections, receiving about 6.57 percent of the vote, which corresponds to about three million votes.
