ANKARA
Turkish President Abdullah Gul referred to Friday's suicide bomb blast at US Embassy in Ankara and said, "Our security and intelligence services were on alert about any attack of terrorist organization and were warning everybody. Unfortunately, the attack occurred."
Gul replied the questions upon topics on the agenda in a press conference he held with his Serbian counterpart at the Cankaya Presidential Residence.
Upon a question about the suicide bomb attack on US Embassy in Ankara, Gul said he conveyed his deep sadness to US officials over the terror attack and mentioned, "Of course our biggest sadness here is the death of Turkish security staff. Also, we follow the health of journalist Didem closely, her condition is improving. We hope that she will regain her health soon."
Upon another question which asked, "Alternative of Shanghai Five is on the agenda. About the membership process, Turkish Premier Erdogan said, they may meet with EU countries again. How do you assess the latest situation?" Gul made clear that Turkey's process to become a full EU member state was continuing.
"Unfortunately, because of the biased behaviours of some countries, the negotiation process does not function, even though we really wish it. Turkish pm expostulate on that primarily. Moreover, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the EU are not alternatives to each other. They are different organizations," Gul said.
