KIEV, Ukraine
An attack by separatist fighters in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, left four dead Sunday, according to local officials.
The Donetsk Municipality Press Bureau said two Ukrainian soldiers and two civilians were killed when separatists launched an attack on an army post, with eight others wounded.
The Ukrainian Counterterrorism Center reported two soldiers killed and six injured in the attack.
A month-long cease-fire signed between separatist leaders, the Kiev government and Russia has been kept in place despite repeated outbreaks of fighting, particularly around Donetsk airport.
The violence led NATO’s most senior military figure to call it a truce “in name only.”
Unrest in eastern Ukraine has torn the region apart since April, when Kiev launched military operations in the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk to restore government control.
