PARIS
Four people were killed and two injured in a shooting at a Roma camp in northern France’s Roye town on Tuesday afternoon, according to the French Interior Ministry
The shooting claimed the lives of a six-month-old baby, a woman, a man from the camp and a gendarme who died from his wounds later on Tuesday, while another gendarme and the shooter suffered serious injuries, according to statement released by the ministry on Tuesday evening.
"Once again the security forces have demonstrated their courage," Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said.
"A man has killed a 6-month-baby in cold blood," he added.
French police and firemen were called to a camp in the Somme department earlier in the day, where they were shot at and exchanged fire.
The circumstances of the deadly assault are yet to be established.
