BAGHDAD
The U.S.-led international coalition launched airstrikes Thursday on Daesh strongholds in northern Iraq leaving scores of Daesh militants dead, peshmerga sources said.
Fourteen militants were killed in al-Salam neighborhood and 18 others were killed in al-Qadisiya neighborhood in coalition airstrikes, Captain Sherzad Zakhouli from the peshmerga forces told The Anadolu Agency.
“At least 10 airstrikes were carried out 30 kilometers east of Mosul, leaving a number of Daesh militants dead,” Raed Mazouri, a peshmerga officer, told The Anadolu Agency.
Also, an unidentified number of militants were killed in airstrikes on Daesh positions in Tal Afar city in Ninawah province.
Meanwhile, in Anbar province, Iraqi security forces, backed by the al-Hashid al-Shaab Shiite militia and international coalition air forces, managed to break Daesh’s five-day siege on the Iraqi army’s Batch 28 in Zeraa Dejla area in al-Karma district, an army officer told The Anadolu Agency.
