Israeli army forces killed a Palestinian in a military raid on Tuesday in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh, the Health Ministry said.
A ministry statement said that Ziad Mohammed Jaber, 54, lost his life to Israeli fire in Umm al-Sharayet neighborhood in the city.
According to local residents, Israeli special forces raided Jaber’s home in the neighborhood and opened fire on him.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society earlier said that a Palestinian was critically injured by Israeli fire in the abdomen and thigh.
For its part, the Palestinian Prisoner Society accused the Israeli army of turning arrest operations into “field executions.”
It said Jaber was killed after being shot twice by Israeli forces during the raid on his home, which also saw the arrest of his nephew and another relative.
According to the nongovernmental organization, Israeli forces detained at least 30 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
“Several documented incidents in recent months indicate that Israeli forces have carried out field executions against Palestinians after detaining them or during arrest operations,” the group said.
It also pointed to signs of restraints on the limbs of several dead Palestinians, accusing Israel of seeking to “legalize killing” through legislation, including a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners that was passed by the Israeli Knesset in March.
The group called on the UN and international human rights bodies to assume their responsibilities and hold Israeli officials accountable for killings and field executions.
Israeli forces carry out frequent raids on cities, towns and refugee camps across the occupied West Bank, often involving home searches, arrests and gunfire, amid escalating tensions since Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
