A 73-year-old Korean man reportedly kidnapped by an al-Qaeda-linked group earlier this year was found dead in the Philippines south, the military announced Sunday.
Army task force commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado said in a text message that the body of Nwi Seong Hong was found dead near Sulu State College on the Abu Sayyaf island stronghold of Sulu.
"Postmortem examination confirmed that the remains belong to Nwi Seong Hong," he said. "The Korean did not sustain any gunshot wounds or contusions on his body when found by local authorities."
The recovered victim's body was in an initial stage of decomposition when found at about 10.30 p.m. (1430GMT) Saturday, he added.
