Airstrikes and clashes between Yemeni government forces and Houthi rebels were reported across several fronts on Thursday, with casualties among fighters and civilians.
The army-affiliated September Net website said government forces, backed by Popular Resistance fighters, repelled a Houthi attack on the northern front of Taiz city, forcing the attackers to retreat.
Citing an unnamed military source, the website also said the Houthis sent reinforcements toward the southern front of Taiz province, including patrol vehicles and a tank.
A field source cited by the website said Houthi forces ordered residents on the city's western front to leave their homes and move toward the central prison.
The residents were instructed to return after four days, the source said, without specifying the reason for the evacuation warning.
The Houthis have not commented on the reports.
Earlier, Al-Jumhuriya TV reported that an airstrike destroyed a Houthi missile launcher on Mount Ba’dan in Ibb province, marking the second such strike in the province in less than 24 hours.
The channel also reported airstrikes targeting Houthi positions on the outskirts of the villages of al-Sarari and Dhi al-Barah, southeast of Mount Saber in Taiz province.
Meanwhile, Aden TV reported intense, ongoing clashes between government forces and Houthi rebels in the Maqaterah, al-Sawalah and al-Zariq areas on the Lahj front.
The channel said airstrikes targeted Houthi reinforcements in Naqil al-Saha in Maqaterah, Lahj province.
It also reported that forces from the Fourth Military Region struck a Houthi vehicle carrying a 23 mm anti-aircraft gun on the Maqaterah front, destroying the vehicle and weapon.
Aden TV further reported that dozens of Houthi fighters killed or wounded in clashes on the Maqaterah fronts had been brought to Khalifa Hospital in the city of Turbah.
Separately, the channel reported that eight civilians, including children, were killed or injured in a Houthi missile strike on the al-Athawir area of Hayfan district in Taiz province.
It also said Yemeni armed forces had conducted 322 operations, killing 64 Houthi fighters and destroying or disabling 16 military vehicles.
Since Oct. 5, Yemeni government forces have been conducting an operation dubbed “Dawn of Yemen,” aimed at regaining control of state institutions and retaking the capital, Sanaa, from the Houthis.
Fighting between government forces and the Houthis resumed in July, killing and wounding thousands and displacing more than 250,000 people, according to UN reports.
The renewed clashes ended a period of relative calm that had prevailed since April 2022, further worsening Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.
Yemen has been engulfed in civil war since the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
