BEIJING
China's military has released photos of armed fighter jets flying over the South China Sea, which are believed to have taken off from a group of islands Beijing claims to have sovereignty over.
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Monday that the jets are South Sea Fleet jets and the training was carried out from the airstrip in the Spratly chain.
The release comes less than a week after a United States warship passed within 22 nautical kilometers (12 nautical miles) of the man-made Chinese island, prompting a call from Beijing for the U.S. to end such provocative behavior.
