Syrians sheltered in container city in Kilis, southeastern province of Turkey, voted to choose their village chiefs and city board members on Thursday.
Having the excitement of voting for the very first time in their lives, Syrians voted to choose 6 village chiefs among 20 candidates of which three are women. They also voted to elect 12 city board members. There are 6 districts in the container city where 14,000 Syrians live.
Registered voters started casting their votes early in the morning. Syrians lived the excitement of their first democratic election away from their homes by electing their village chiefs.
Kilis Governer Suleyman Tapsiz said they organized the elections for the Syrians living in the container city for them to participate in the administration process.
