CAIRO (AA) – Violence engulfed downtown Cairo on Friday with clashes between supporters and opponents of deposed President Mohammad Morsi.
Hundreds of protesters were engaging in hit-and-run street battles near the state television building in Cairo.
Witnesses said scores of people were injured in the violence, many by gunshots.
The battling protesters were exchanging molotov cocktails and fireworks.
Video footage showed a blazing car on the 6th October Bridge near the television building.
Army troops intensified measures around the state television to abort any attempt to storm the building.
Thousands of Morsi loyalists took to the streets on Friday in protest at the army’s roadmap which saw the removal of the Islamist president in the wake of massive protests against his regime.
